Mel was born in Zeballos, BC on April 4th, 1941. The third of four children to Roy and Alma Trelvik. He attended elementary school in Port Alberni and graduated from ADSS in 1959. Mel was a longshoreman all his life. Retiring as a Superintendent with the Waterfront Employers of British Columbia in 1999. In his youth, Mel loved sports. He curled, played basketball and softball and lead the softball team to a BC Senior Men’s Softball championship in 1967. He loved his yearly hunting trips, his boat and fishing, golfing and gardening. He chased his Grandkids in their sports and was a proud loving Papa to all four.
We would like to thank the nurses and care-aides at West Coast General Hospital and Fir Park Village for their wonderful care in the last 6 months of Mel’s life, as well as the kindness and compassion shown by Dr Woodley and Dr Sam Williams.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mel’s name to Kid Sport Port Alberni.
