Pearl grew up around Khedive, SK. She married Bud (Alvin Alexander) McLellan in 1953 and they had four children, Deborah, Daniel, Deana and Donald. They separated in the late 1950’s and Pearl raised her four children as a single mom. She worked in the telephone industry and eventually moved into the hotel and hospitality industry in Regina and Saskatoon. Following her career opportunities the family moved west, first to Calgary, AB and then finally in Oct 1965 to the west coast and settled in Burnaby, BC. Pearl joined Delta Hotels in 1967 and was a trailblazer for women in the industry when she was appointed in 1977 to be the general manager of the Canadian Inn in Kamloops, BC. She left the hospitality industry and settled in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island in the early 1990’s where she worked well into her 70’s, only retiring when her employer closed.
Pearl was very outgoing, had a sharp wit, a ready smile and was engaging when working with the public. She was an exemplary practitioner of customer service relations and doing things right. Pearl enjoyed reading and keeping up on current affairs, listening to Willie Nelson, interacting with her neighbors, puttering in her garden and caring for her cats.
Pearl is survived by three of her children, Debra (Pat), Daniel (Roberta) and Don (Kathy), five grandchildren and eight (soon to be nine) great grandchildren, three half-siblings from her father George’s second marriage, Jocelyn, Raymond and Rose and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Evelyn, daughter Deana and grandson Dustin and the great love of her life Walter.
There will be no service. Memorial donations can be made to the Alberni Valley Hospice Society, 2579 Tenth Ave, Port Alberni, BC, who operate the hospice where Pearl received such wonderful and compassionate care.
