Sukhdaiv was predeceased by her parents, Pritam Singh and Partapi Kore Banga, and her loving husband, Bhagat Singh Dhak. She was also predeceased by sisters, Updesh Gidda and Satbant Beadall, and brothers, Surjit Banga and Malkit Banga.
Mom was born in New Westminister, BC (Lulu Island), where she graduated from T.J. Trapp Technical School. Shortly after her marriage to Bhagat in 1952, Sukhdaiv moved to Port Alberni to settle and build a family together.
Mom was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in life with courage and dignity. Mom dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home - Mom and her kitchen were the heart of our home. The beautiful quilts and knitted treasures she made will be cherished as they continue to warm us.
Sukhdaiv is survived by her daughters, Nancy Stephen (Jim) and Janice Tormala (Jarmo); son, Norman Dhak (Jocelyn); grandsons Ryan Hanuman (Ashley), Adam Hanuman (Janine) and Robin Tormala; great granddaughters Emerie and Sienna Hanuman, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and extended family members.
Heartfelt thanks to all the Homecare Workers as well as the Nurses and staff at West Coast General Hospital for the compassionate care they have provided to our mom.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes there will be a private cremation, and no formal funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to West Coast General Hospital Fundation, in memory of Sukhdaiv Kour Dhak ( nee Banga), or the charity of your choice.
