Ted was born on June 5, 1940, in Boxtel, the Netherlands. He lived the past fifty-three years in Port Alberni, British Columbia. Since March 2025, he had been residing at Rainbow Gardens Care Home, where he was lovingly cared for until the end and where friends were by his side during his final moments.
Ted lived a life full of adventure. He first emigrated to Australia and later settled in Canada, where he found his home in Port Alberni. For many years, he worked in the repair of televisions and electronic equipment, a profession in which his self-taught technical skill and precision clearly stood out.
Beyond his work, Ted deeply enjoyed jazz music, restoring vintage sports cars, and collecting stamps. He was a man with a warm heart, a sharp sense of humor, and those unmistakable twinkling eyes. Someone who was always there for others and who connected easily with people.
Through visits and close contact, his family in the Netherlands remained strongly connected to him. Ted will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survived by brother Ton Barten (Corrie Barten-Maas) and sister Wilma Barten-Smoorenburg (Nol Smoorenburg), sisters-in-law's Tiny Barten-Vromans & Els Barten-Maas and niece and nephews (Michiel, Sander, Steven, Ruben and Irene) in the Netherlands.
The Barten family in the Netherlands, sincerely thank everyone in Port Alberni who was dear to Ted and who surrounded him with care, kindness, and friendship.
