Alois “Al” M. Kowalczyk, Jr., age 74 of North Port, FL passed away May 8, 2021. He was born November 26, 1946 in Chicago, IL to Agnes and Alois Kowalczyk, Sr. Al went to Covington Grammar School and graduated from Oak Lawn Community High School in 1964. He earned his Associates Degree from Moraine Valley Community College and went on to proudly serve in the US Army Artillery during the Vietnam War from 1967-68. Al worked for the Oak Lawn Police Department for 30 years. He started as an Officer and worked his way up to an Investigator. He was a member of the VFW, the Elks, and the American Legion. Al enjoyed biking, golfing, photography, and reading. He loved to try his luck when visiting local and not so local establishments of chance. Al loved friendly family poker games, and traveling and cruising the Caribbean with his wife. He also was quite the history buff. Al was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Maureen E. Kowalczyk; his son, William Morales III; his grandchildren, William “Will” (Megan) Morales, Joseph “Joe” Morales; and Katherine “Kate” Morales; his great granddaughter, Lily Morales; and his sister, Judith “Judy” Norton. A Visitation will take place for Al on Monday, May 17, 2021 from 3 pm – 5 pm at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home; 2405 Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952. A Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 10 am, also at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home. Interment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL.
