Donald B. Fontaine, 77, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, near his home in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, Don was the youngest of three children of Matilda B. and Charles B. Fontaine. He graduated from Niskayuna High School and Lafayette College, which prepared him for a rewarding thirty-eight-year career with General Electric. His work took him across the United States and around the world, where he was admired and beloved by colleagues fortunate enough to work alongside him.
In 1981, Don married the love of his life, Debbie. Together they shared more than four decades filled with love, faith, and countless memories. Don was a devoted father to his three sons, and later embraced the joy of becoming a grandfather. He was a member of Christ Church United Methodist, where he and Debbie formed lasting friendships grounded in faith and community.
Don’s greatest joy was spending time with family and friends—especially near the water. Whether on lakes, rivers, or oceans, he loved being on a boat and creating lasting memories with those he cherished. Golf also brought him happiness, particularly in retirement, when he and Debbie enjoyed many rounds with friends in both Kentucky and Florida.
Known for his warmth, humor, and extraordinary gift for storytelling, Don had a way of making people laugh and smile wherever he went. His stories—always told with wit and charm—were legendary, and his kindness and spirit touched all who knew him.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Deborah; his three sons, Tyler (Lesley), Matthew (Whitney), and Bradley (Jessica); and his six grandchildren, Garrett, Nola, Audrey, Sloane, Margot, and Rhodes. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Barbara), and sister, Jean (Steve).
A celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Rd. S.W. Suite 105, Lilburn, GA 30047, or online at LBDA.org
