Although I moved and had not seen Gene for several years, I never stopped caring about him. He was a good neighbor and friend, and I have many happy memories of him. We had a really tight-knit, unique friend group back then. It was special and I'm grateful for that experience. 

I had always looked up to him, and I am deeply saddened by this news, as I have just learned of this a few days ago. He will live forever in my heart, and I know the same is true for his closest friends and family.
