Gerald J. Carr of Punta Gorda, Fl., died October 19, 2007 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital. He was born July 3, 1925 in Newton, New Jersey the youngest child of the late William and Lottie Carr. He was educated in local schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He survived a Kamikaze hit on his ship, U.S.S. Sangamon. On July 5, 1945 he married Blanche Van Orden and together they had five children while living and working in New Jersey. In 1988, the couple retired to Florida where Blanche died in 2002.
Gerald married his surviving spouse Barbara J. Fagan in 2004. Also surviving are his four children, Jeffrey T. Carr, Budd Lake, J.J., Dardanella Carr at home, Kevin R. Carr, Newton, N.J. and Mrs. Kathleen Creedon, Naples, Fl. as well as sisters Elizabeth DeGroat of Wisconsin and Doris Hall of New Jersey, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Stephen, his sister Hazel DeGroat and his bother Kenneth. His current memberships include American Legion Post #103, V.F.W. Post 5690 and Sparta, N.J. Elks
