If you heard the rev of a motorcycle through North Port or Naples in the last 15 or so years, or through the state of Delaware, where he was born and lived most of his life before heading South, it was probably Gil. The only thing he loved more than his motorcycle was his wife, Eileen Riddell, his “Duckie”. If Gil wasn’t riding, you could find him hunting, fishing or playing Texas Hold ‘Em with his Naples buddies.
Born to George W. and Annalee Riddell, Gil graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington, Delaware in 1968. He went directly into the Army, and was a Green Beret until 1970. After 36 jumps at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Gil became a Trenton, New Jersey police officer. He then spent seven years as a property manager at the Remington in Naples, Florida.
Gil was also passionate about masonry, where he spent many years enjoying the company of his brothers. He was a past Master of the Washington Lodge No. 1 in Wilmington, Delaware, serving in the role in 1995, 1997 and 1998. He was also a dual member of Brandywine Lodge No. 33 in Claymont, Delaware. He served the Grand Lodge of Delaware as Senior Grand Steward in 1996. And in true Gil fashion, he started the first Master Mason Motorcycle Club in 1997.
Gil is preceded in death by his father and mother, George W. and Annalee Riddell. He is mourned deeply by wife Eileen, his four children and seven grandchildren; his brother George W. Riddell and sister-in-law Faith; sister Faith Mulqueens and brother-in-law Jay; and several nieces and nephews.
