Born in Easton, Maryland on January 31, 1930 she was the daughter of the
late Charles E.and Ruth V. Gibson Horney. Jean in her youth grew up in
Grasonville, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She married Gordon L. Lowe
on September 20, 1949 and traveled for a number years as a devoted wife and
mother with her husband a career U.S. Army officer. Most of her adult life was
spent in Salisbury, Maryland raising a family. The joys in her life were seeing and
talking to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jean was a devoted
spiritual Christian, kind and thoughtful person who never met a stranger. In 1990
she moved to the Port Charlotte area with her husband Gordon.
She is survived by her husband Gordon L. Lowe of Port Charlotte, two sons
Victor G. Lowe and companion Carol Schoonover of Hebron, MD and Kenneth W.
Lowe and wife Donna of Salisbury, MD. Brothers: Robert & Gail Horney, Fort
Pierce, FL and Donald and Delores Horney, Zephyrhills, FL. Six grandchildren:
Lauren Bennett and husband David, Dana, Ryan, Megan, Mathew & Courtney
Lowe. Two great-grandchildren: Cody and Tyler Bennett all of Salisbury. She is
also survived by a number of nieces and nephews on the Eastern Shore.
She was preceded in death by her four sisters: Doris Patchett, Cora Belle
Lowe, Ethel Davis and Betty White. A daughter-in-law Pamela Baldwin Lowe.
She was an active member of Community Life Center Church in Port Charlotte,
FL and supported a number of missionary projects. She was formerly a member
of Parkway Church of God in Salisbury.
A funeral service will be held Monday, April 7, 2008 at 11:00 am at
Kays-Ponger Port Charlotte Chapel, 2405 Harbor Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL.
Pastor Mark Coffey will be officiating the service. Family and friends may visit
beginning at 10:00am at the funeral home. Interment will be at Royal Palm
Cemetery in Punta Gorda, FL immediately following the service. Please visit the
