

Jerry L. Bird, age 80, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025. He was born in Martin, TN, on March 16, 1945, to Homer L. Bird and Wyvonne Bird, Jerry lived a life defined by service, loyalty, and a deep love for family and sports.
A proud graduate of Great Bend High School, Class of 1964, Jerry went on to serve in the United States Air Force Reserve, earning the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge on September 1, 1971. His dedication to his fellow veterans continued throughout his life as a committed member of the American Legion, where he found fellowship and purpose in supporting his community.
Jerry spent 32 years working for Caterpillar (1969–2002), where he built lasting friendships and contributed to a legacy of hard work and integrity.
An avid sports enthusiast, Jerry’s passion extended from professional teams like the Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, and Kansas City Chiefs to the joy of watching the Little League World Series. He celebrated athletes of all ages and backgrounds, always appreciating the heart and effort behind every game.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved son, Shane L. Bird.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Irene Bird; daughters Carol Parsons and Christine Bird; grandchildren Kathryn Parsons, Joseph Parsons, and Matthew Parsons; and sister Gale Liss. His family was the center of his world, and his love for them was unwavering.
In accordance with Jerry’s wishes, no formal service will be held at this time.

Jerry’s legacy lives on in the love he gave, the values he upheld, and the memories cherished by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
