Joseph John Perez, 102, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away September 28, 2013. He was born November 19, 1910 in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph J. and Paulina (Gurgui) Perez. He had lived in this area since his retirement in 1971. In life, Joseph had many interests. He was committed to his civilian job as a Cartographer for the Navy Oceanographic Office in D.C. He enjoyed his volunteer work at Mt Calvary Church in Maryland and his service to the Boy Scouts of America (1946-1970) where he served as a troop leader and an area commissioner. His retirement years in Florida provided the climate for him to pursue his love of fishing, boating and gardening.
He is survived by his son, Joseph P. (Marjorie) Perez and daughter, Josine Perez, SSND as well as nieces, nephews and cousin, mostly in the NY area. Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Alice (Strohlein) Perez; sisters, Conchita Montusi and Mercedes Pisano and brothers, Angelo and Frank Perez.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Thursday October 3, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda with the Rev Jerry Kaywell officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte. The family has requested donations in memory of Joseph be made to the St Vincent DePaul Society.
