

Juan E Martinez Acosta, age 81 , who many knew by Quique and who others affectionately called "Papa", passed away peacefully on February 20th surrounded by loved ones. He was born on May 3rd, 1941, in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico to Angel Martinez and Mercedes Acosta. He was one of 7 children. Juan Studied in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico while growing up and later moved to Gary Indiana where he completed his High School GED.
It is there where he meets the love of his life, Aida L Martinez in 1963 and was joined in Holy Matrimony in 1965 where they lasted together for 55 years. Together they raised 5 children. A family founded on the love of God. Juan was an excellent Husband, Father, Grandfather, Pastor, and Friend.
Juan retired from the U.S Steel corporation where he worked for over 30 years. Juan was also a pilar for the Christian Church-Disciples of christ where he was a Pastor for many years in Puerto Rico, touching lives and being a faithful servant together with his wife.
Juan is survived by his children : Angelo Martinez (Tammy), Juan "Johnny" Martinez (Maria) and Mercedes "Marcy" Martinez. He is a grandfather to 18 beautiful children and several great grandchildren. He leaves behind 5 siblings: Toni, Erida, William, Maribel and Ruth. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, Nephews and friends. His passing was preceded by his loving wife Aida L Martinez, his parents Angel Martinez and Mercedes Acosta, his sibling Angel Luis Martinez and 2 children Daniel and David Martinez.
Juan E Martinez leaves behind an amazing legacy, as many testimonials speak of his humbleness, passion to serve, his wisdom and sense of humor. Juan loved to study the Bible, minister and counsel others, pray , spend time with his family, make others laugh and enjoy the outdoors. He was a good cook and baker too. Juan was also an animal lover. Throughout the years, he had many farm and domestic animals, but his favorite were birds. He really enjoyed bird watching. Juan will be remembered for his genuine love for all, his wisdom and humble spirit. To know him was to love him.
Juan has been a faithful servant and believer in God. He often spoke graciously about the day he would be called by his Heavenly Father. We have peace knowing that he rests in the Father's arms as he receives his reward.
