

He was born January 29, 1920 in Steele, MO. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years during World War II.
Before relocating to Punta Gorda in 1982, Williams published seven weekly newspapers in Ohio and wrote a syndicated column on current events for several newspapers. He authored five historical books, three of which are about the Charlotte Harbor area, for which he received The Golden Quill Award from the Florida Historical Society.
Lindsey Williams displayed a lifetime commitment to community service. He served the Punta Gorda Historical Society, Florida Historical Society, Rotary Club, and numerous other organizations, including Fifth Saturday Anomalists, Blanchard House Museum Advisory Board, and Freeman House Guild. Williams received many honors, including the George Washington Medal (Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge), Daughters of the American Revoluation National Medal of Honor, Flint Michigan Central High School Distinguished Alumni Award, Punta Gorda Rotary Club Service Above Self Award, Honorary Lt. Governor of Ohio, and was a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow.
Prior to moving to Ohio in 1959, he wrote for the Detroit Free Press and did public relations for Michigan Bell Telephone and A.T.&T. in New York City.
Lindsey is survived by Cona, his wife of 69 years; one sister, Jerry (Armand) Gauthier of Ft. Myers; two daughters, Cona (Kevin) Falcon of Sanford, NC, and Lorie (Dr. David) Hager of Kerrville TX; two sons, Lindsey C. (Diane) Williams of Alpharetta, GA, and Steven (Susan) Williams of Sarasota; three grandchildren, Sarah Williams, Cona Garman, and Erik Hager; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Billie Powell.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Kays-Ponger Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E. Marion Ave, Punta Gorda.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 900 Tamiami Trail, Unit 111, Punta Gorda.
