
She was born on July 10, 1918 in Jamaica, to the parents of Joseph and Adina Hinds in the Parish of St. Mary, in Jamaica West Indies. She migrated to the United States in 1973 and went to work helping families raise their children, until she was no longer able to work. Matilda went to live with her niece in New York and then moved with the family to Florida in 2003. Settling in Port Charlotte, Florida she attended Victory Baptist Church, previously being a staunch member of the Burke Avenue Baptist Church in New York. Matilda was known as Aunty by everyone. Matilda struggled with her health in the last few years, and was called home to be with her savior, on March 12, 2009.
She leaves behind her niece, Mrs. Albertha Hibbert and her husband, Clarence, she will also be missed by her, many nieces, nephew and friends. Rest in Piece 'Auntie' as she was known to all.
