Lived and worked in Canton, Michigan. Became a part-time Port Charlotte resident in the 1990's, and moved to Port Charlotte in 2007.
Donald was a general contractor in Michigan until the mid-1970's and became "semi-retired", doing carpentry work for the next 30 years.
He served as a combat veteran in WWII with the 96th Blackhawk Division both in Europe and the Philippines. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant while in Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star.
Always active, he was a 35 year member of the Canton, Michigan Lions Club while in Michigan as well as the Plymouth, Michigan, VFW. While in Port Charlotte, he was a member of Post 5690 and the Military Order of the Cootie.
He is survived by a brother, Leland "Jack" Rochefort of Bad Axe, Michigan, and a sister, carol Klawinski of Bay City, Michigan; two daughters, Karen Smith of Punta Gorda, and Donna Kemppainen also of Punta Gorda; six grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
