Myrtle I. Backus, 86, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away on Monday, September 3, 2007. She was born in Albion, Michigan on September 29, 1920 to James and Mable Radle and raised her family in Harbor Springs, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Charles Backus as well as two grandsons.

Myrtle loved crotcheting afghans for her loved ones, reading, playing bingo at the Cultural Center, and being with her family.

She is survived by her sister, Ethel Sutton-Bump of Port Charlotte; her eleven children and their spouses; Cecelia Guilliams & the late Earl Bud of Port Charlotte, Rodney Backus Linda of Scroggins, TX, Kenneth Backus April of Harbor Springs, MI, Dixie Strickland of Port Charlotte, Daniel Backus Jill of Harbor Springs, MI, Susan Foote of Port Charlotte, George Backus Katie of Harbor Springs, MI, Charla Maran Greg of Harrison, Mi, Mathew Backus Janice of St. Cloud, FL, Myrna Moore Kevin of Punta Gorda, Terry Backus of Port Charlotte; 31 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 5 great- great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A small memorial, in her honor, will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2007 from 1-4 pm at her home.

Myrtle will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We will see her smile forever in our minds and her love will be in our hearts eternally.
