
Leta was born, May 17, 1934, to Robert and Lucile Berry (both deceased); she was raised in Hillsboro, IN and later was married in 1953, to Kenneth Hodges (deceased). Moved to Crawfordsville then to Dayton, IN. She worked as a real-estate agent, self-employed bookkeeper, office manager and later received her broker's license. In 1975 worked at Montgomery Ward's doing taxes in 1976, moved to Washington, DC for 23 years and worked for Congressman Fithian of Indiana and later with Congressman Ortiz of Texas as a bookkeeper, office manager and did campaign fund raisers and used her real estate broker's license for getting condos. Leta did a lot of volunteer work at the White House when Clinton was in office. Became a permanent Florida resident in 1999, where she was self-employed as a bookkeeper for Quick Oil Change till 2009, and retired. Leta was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother and will forever be missed by all who loved and knew her.
Leta is survived by two daughters, Nancy Oswalt of Dayton, IN and Peggy Crenshaw of Port Charlotte, FL; three sisters, Janice Serie (Russell) of Attica, IN, Phyllis Williams (Larry) of Noblesville, IN and Patricia Griffith (Tony deceased) of New Port News, VA; one brother, Michael Berry (Patricia) of Cicero, IN; one sister-in-law Marie Berry (Gerald deceased) of GA; four grandchildren, Katherine Smith (Brian) of Martinsville, IN, Joshua Oswalt of Homewood IL, Jennifer Boule (Robert) and Ashley Crenshaw of Port Charlotte, FL; three great-grandchildren, Corey Oswalt of Homewood, IL, Brighid and Madeleine Smith of Martinsville, IN.
Leta's ashes will be put to rest at the foot of her mother's grave in May or June 2012, at Bonebreak Cemetery, Hillsboro, IN. Please visit the online tribute to Nancy Leta Berry at www.kays-ponger.com to sign the guest book.
