He was born on November 22, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York and came to Port Charlotte, Florida from there 30 years ago. William was a Police Officer for the NYPD, retiring after 25 years of service. He was past president of the Irish American Club, Founder and President of the 1013 Club and very active in the American Legion and the VFW. He was a highly decorated, US Marine, serving in the Pacific Theatre during WW-II, on the Island of Palau.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Bob) Ilario of Selden, New York, his 2 step-daughters, Barbara Ditman of Ohio and Suzie (William) Rella of up state, New York also 6 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Visitation Monday, February 28, 2011 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Kays-Ponger and Uselton Funeral Home 2405 Harbor Blvd. Port Charlotte.
Funeral services Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rest lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with US Marine Military Honors.
