Albert Randolph Hutchings

Al is predeceased by his wife, Sandra (Lake) and will be deeply missed by children: Paul (Crystal) Hutchings, Sandra Blagden (Frank Hamm), Mike (Jennifer) Dearman, Mark Dearman, Susan (Peter) Schreiber, and many beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Al was born on February 5, 1930 in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland. He was the youngest son of the late Azariah and Anne (Ryan) Hutchings and brother to Gerald (& Roberta) Hutchings, Katherine (& Len) Butt, Fanny (& Ron) Yetman, and uncle to many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ever the adventurer and hard worker, he mastered numerous occupations throughout his life, including a chauffeur for the Beauwater family, a butcher, a grocery store manager, and later a security guard for Irving Oil. During most of his later working years, he could be found either on the Westfield Golf Course, in a camper van at Fundy Park relaxing with the love of his life, Sandy, or working tirelessly at the small corner store, Morna Variety Store, which he managed alongside Sandy and their beloved dog, Sugar.

In his 72nd year, Al and Sandy uprooted themselves from the Maritimes, drove across Canada, and continued their golf, gardening, and grandparenting adventures in Pitt Meadows, BC. They built a beautiful life together wherever they went.

Al was well-known and deeply respected for his generosity, sense of humour, and his endless storytelling. Despite many health setbacks in recent years, he was an inspiration for his optimism, positivity, and independence. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

At Al’s request, there will be a private family celebration of life at a future date.

The family wishes to thank the Eagle Ridge Hospital Emergency Department and staff of Unit West 2B, as well as Al’s family physician, Dr. Teodor Ivanov of Maple Ridge, Dr. Eitan Prisman (Vancouver General Hospital Otolarngology Surgeon) and Dr. Catherine Poh (BC Cancer Agency Oral Pathologist) for their dedicated care of Al for many years.
