

Doug will be forever missed by his loving wife Brenda Shavchook, brothers David Ramsay and Gary Ramsay (Wendy), nephew Dylan, and his mother Verna Ramsay. He is also survived by his father-in-law Ted Shavchook, brothers-in-law Braden Shavchook and Gregg Shavchook (Leanne Krawchuk), and nephews Blake and Eric, as well as numerous other friends and family. Doug was predeceased by his father Frank Ramsay and mother-in-law Alyce Shavchook.
Doug has touched the lives of so many people, including those in the business community too. To many he was also know as “Uncle Doug.” His infectious smile, that twinkle in his eye and energetic personality could light up any room.
Doug was a caring, kind, humble man who had a genuine interest in people. He had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone of any age, about anything at anytime. He always made you feel comfortable. His stories were endless, and he could make people laugh.
Doug was a Chartered Accountant graduating from Simon Fraser University in 1980. He worked independently and at Price Waterhouse up until 1987. He then began working for Konings Wholesale as the Director of Finance where he was instrumental in the sale of Continental Food Service to Sysco Food Services. Shortly thereafter, Doug was promoted by the Sysco Board to Executive Vice President of Sysco Vancouver. In 2001-2002, he played a pivotal role in the purchase of Serca Foods by Sysco. Then in 2003, Doug was promoted to President of Sysco Vancouver and in 2006, he became President of Sysco for Western Canada. In 2010 Doug left Sysco to later join Premium Brands Holdings Corporation in 2011. Doug has been a Managing Director at Premium Brands for the last 13 years.
Doug always looked after his employees and their families. The people were always Doug’s first concern. Throughout his career, he was a mentor to so many people. He was the person that others came to for advice, and he could always strategize and solve problems. He was fair, approachable, and he always did the right thing. Doug had a very distinguished career.
The many charities, organizations, boards, and associations that Doug was involved in speak volumes of his generosity.
Doug had many passions. He could often be seen with a cup of coffee in hand, chatting with someone. He enjoyed working out, reading, and playing golf. He also loved hockey, the outdoors, gardening, and travelling.
Doug the man you were, your positive attitude, strong values, honesty and integrity, has made many of us that knew you become better people. Your legacy is remarkable.
Doug, may you Rest in Peace and We All love You Very Much. You are Gone too soon. You will be forever in our hearts; the many memories, experiences and times of laughter we had shared will live on forever.
A private Mass for Doug will be held on November 8, 2024 at 10:30 am at the Gardens of Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery Chapel, located at 15694 32 Avenue, Surrey, B.C. Following that an inurnment in the cemetery will occur at 11:30 am.
Father Maciej Wos will be officiating.
Following that there will be a private reception starting at noon at the Morgan Creek Golf Course at 3500 Morgan Creek Way, Surrey, B.C.
Streaming of the Mass at 10:30 a.m. will occur on November 8th, 2024
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
