27 January, 1929 – 26 February, 2021
We are sad to announce that earlier this year our dear father and grandfather (Bestefar) passed away at 92 years of age from complications of heart failure after a short stay in hospital .
Erling came to Canada from Norway in 1957 as a newlywed with our dear mom Aud (predeceased). They quickly built a life together, settling in the West End of Vancouver, and starting a young family with Leslie and Kenneth (predeceased). Erling was quick to flourish in the printing industry with his trade as a lithographer. For recreation, Erling developed a passion for tennis, spending weekends at the Stanley Park tennis courts, with mom and kids hanging out at the beach.
After some travel across Canada and back to Norway, the family settled in Port Coquitlam with third child Linda in 1968.
Erling was always involved in the community whether it was coaching soccer, playing tennis at Port Coquitlam tennis club, or developing a penchant for golf. He also had a passion for horse racing and for years you could find him at Exhibition Park (now Hastings Park) and Cloverdale Race Track (now Fraser Downs). He even fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a harness racing horse, Precious Jimmy.
In his later years, Erling traveled as much as possible, walked every day in the park, played a lot of golf, and spent time with his family.
Erling leaves behind Leslie (Dale), Linda (Jim), four wonderful grandchildren Vendela, Liv, Erik and Lauren, as well as his sister Rigmor, sister-in-law Gunn and husband Bjørn and family, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends in Norway.
We loved Erling's kind heart and zest for life and miss him so much.
Friends and acquaintances are welcome to join us at his Celebration of Life to be held at Burkeview Chapel in Port Coquitlam at 10 am on October 23, 2021.
