It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frances Maplethorp (age 103) on August 15, 2026. Left to mourn, her two children, daughter Amanda (Ian), son David (Lori), and two grandchildren, Adrian (Kira) and Eleanor. Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Cyril Maplethorp, in 2012. She and Cyril married in France and immigrated to Canada in 1953. They moved to Port Moody in 1958 where she rapidly filled the lack of kindergarten in the area with a school in their basement, continuing that for a few years until kindergarten was introduced in the local schools. She continued teaching kindergarten for many years and after retiring helped Cyril in his engineering business until he retired. She and Cyril were avid bridge players. They both volunteered for many years, first with the Red Cross running the local loan service, and later at Eagle Ridge Hospital amongst other places. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, Port Moody, in her name would be greatly appreciated.
She will be dearly missed.
