It is with deep love and fond memories that we announce the passing of our beloved parents, Rev. Frederick Alden Kingston and Jesse Evelyn Kingston (Radway), who passed away in Coquitlam after 68 years of marriage. Evelyn, aged 88, left us on May 30, 2024, followed by Fred, aged 89, on October 2, 2024. Their lives were full of joy, creativity, and they shared a lifetime of love adventure and devotion to each other.
Fred was born on October 7, 1934, in Vancouver, BC, to Bert and Mable Kingston (Cross). An avid sports enthusiast, Fred enjoyed football and rugby, and he proudly played for Burnaby South Secondary and the Vancouver Blue Bombers. Evelyn, born on June 5, 1935, in Radway, Alberta, to Glen and Daisy Radway (Longstreet), had a passion for music, especially singing, and was a vibrant leader of the church youth choir in Maple Ridge.
The couple’s love story began at a United Church youth event in Naramata, BC, and they were married on December 23, 1955. Their partnership was one of creativity, dedication, and shared passions. After trying his hand at several careers, Fred followed his calling and graduated from the Vancouver School of Theology, becoming a minister with the United Church of Canada. Together, they found joy in the arts, spending time with local theatre groups designing, building, painting, and lighting sets.
After Fred’s retirement, the couple’s creativity blossomed further with the founding of Kingston Design, where they crafted mall displays, parade floats, and props for special events. Their hands were always at work, creating, imagining, and bringing beauty into the world. In their later years, they found joy and friendship through the Vancouver Miniature Club, where they continued their artistic pursuits.
Fred and Evelyn are survived by their four sons, Graeme, Neil, Joel, and Lowell, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A celebration of their lives will be held in the spring of 2025 (details to be announced). In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred and Ev’s memory can be made out to the Crossroads Hospice Society, in gratitude for the compassionate care they provided.
