Rogers, Gerald Edmond was born on September 26th, 1932 in London, Ontario and passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on November 24th 2023. Predeceased by his loving wife Marilynn of 62 years in 2015, Gerry (fondly known by family as ‘Pa’) is lovingly survived by daughter Becky (Scott), son Russ (Leslie), grandchildren Justin (Kate), Bryn, and Jed, great-grandchildren Reese and Rylan, and many nieces and nephews.
After losing his father when he was 8, Gerry -- with his mother, sister Doreen (“Auntie Deenie”), and younger brother Bob -- moved to BC to start a new life out west. Gerry graduated from Burnaby South in 1950 and began his career with BC Tel in Engineering while taking courses at UBC. Gerry married Marilynn Kidd in 1953 and established their family home in North Burnaby where Becky and Russ grew up.
Gerry enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, summers at Green Lake and Vancouver Island, and Hockey – which he played with his BC Tel family (including the Oldtimers) for many years. Both Becky and Russ played hockey and numerous other sports and both he and Marilynn were always there to support and cheer them on. Later they were there - cheering and supporting their grandchildren. Pa’s kids and grandkids grew to love and appreciate all the things he loved and taught them and Pa was always happiest spending time with family.
Gerry and Marilynn also loved to travel and spent many winters in Arizona with Auntie Deenie and Uncle Elmer before moving in the early 1990’s to their cabin retreat which he had earlier built at Bridge Lake. They lived there for 20 years spending much time with family but in 2013, returned to the lower mainland where they settled in Maple Ridge to be closer to both Becky and Russ’s families. With a smile we will always remember Pa’s warmth, patience, and kindness and how he was always willing to lend a hand to whoever needed it.
The family sincerely wishes to thank the staff and physicians in Ruskin Hill at Baillie House for Gerry’s care over the past few years. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held sometime in 2024. Please feel free to contact the family in the new year for more information. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation.
