In Loving Memory of Hazel Best
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hazel Alice Best (nee Dorey), a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Hazel passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, at the remarkable age of 103.
Born on November 17, 1921, in Kamloops, BC, Hazel spent her formative years in the charming town of Salmo, BC with her 4 siblings. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Norman Best, in 1994, and her son Bill in 2007. She is survived by her two daughters Susan Amy (Lyle, deceased 2022), and Marjorie Krueger (Gary), and her daughter-in-law Cathie Best.
Her legacy continues through her loving grandchildren: Gordon Kleaman, Jim Amy, Ken Page (Lenora), Tracy Newcomb, Rick Page (Gorett), Curtis Kleaman, Susan Katinic (Nick), Steve Page (Michelle), Darren Kleaman (Henri), Cori Best, and Dennis Best (Audrey). She was also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring love and family bonds.
For an incredible 82 years, Hazel called Deep Cove, BC, her home. She was deeply integrated into the community, maintaining close ties with the Deep Cove Heritage Society and was instrumental in lobbying for the Parkgate Seniors Centre. She spent untold hours volunteering at the Seniors Centre including preparing lunches on a weekly basis.
She was a spark in many of our lives, and the source of great wisdom and humour. She genuinely enriched the lives of all who knew her.
A celebration of Hazel's life will be held at the Mount Seymour United Church (1200 Parkgate Avenue, North Vancouver) on April 26, 2025, at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Hazel's memory to the Kidney Foundation.
Hazel's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
