Heather McCrady, age 42, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2016 (following a stroke on June 3) at the Royal Columbian Hospital, surrounded by her family. She joins her parents Gordon McCrady (April, 2006) and Lois McCrady (May 30, 2016). Adopted into a loving family, Heather grew up in Port Coquitlam before moving to Ottawa, Ontario, to pursue her education in Developmental Services and Child & Youth work at Algonquin College. Heather married Aaron Watmough in 2008 and was a loving mother to their daughters Tristen, Erica, Arian, Kelsey and Briana. Heather is survived by her Aunt Diane (Brian) Wastle of Ottawa, Ontario, and Uncle Bob (Shirley) Reid of London, Ontario. Dearly missed by her first cousins Devon, Shelley, Dena and Rob, and survived by many other relatives. A cancer survivor at a young age, Heather was known for her vitality and touched the lives of every person who had the fortune to know her. She travelled the world with her parents, but always returned to Vancouver and her love of the ocean. A proponent of constantly bettering oneself, Heather was regularly attending classes to update her training, as she focused her work on adults with dementia through Vancouver Coastal Health. For the past six months, Heather dedicated herself to caring for her mother Lois. This purely selfless act of love was an amazing example of her strength, good humour, and devotion. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the many amazing health care workers who helped Heather through both her mother’s care and her own.
Family and Friends will be greeted at a Celebration of Life, to be held on Friday, June 10,2016 at 2:00 PM at Trinity United Church, 2211 Prairie Avenue, Port Coquitlam. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
