
HIGGINS Kenneth Edward passed away peacefully on February 18, 2018 in Eagle Ridge Hospital, Port Moody, after a short illness. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Ann, brother in law Richard Adby (Lindy),sisters in law Jane Donaldson (Eric) and Sarah Styler (Richard), nephews Matthew Rose (Kate), Kevin Marshall (Fiona) and nieces Helen Heard (Andy), Diana Hector (Chris) and Anna Donaldson. Ken will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Ken was a member of the Vancouver Police Force for thirty years serving in a number of positions and finishing his career as Deputy Chief Constable – Operations. In 1972 Ken volunteered with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. He was the Commanding Officer of a Squadron for four years and later served as BC Provincial Chairman. In 2006 he was elected as a National Governor and served a term as National Chair in 2012 -2013. For many years Ken volunteered at both the local and provincial level with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program. He served two terms as President, BC and Yukon Division. He was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for services to the program. Ken had a lifelong passion for aviation and he was a recreational pilot. He owned a 1948 Tempco Swift which he flew at local events as an avid member of the Swiftbird Formation Team. Ken was retired for twenty years and he and Ann traveled extensively to many parts of the world.
No funeral by request. In lieu of flowers donations in Ken’s memory can be made to the BCSPCA or the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, BC and Yukon Division.
