It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Vern, who left us peacefully on January 18, 2024 at the age of 91. He was the beloved husband of Yvonne (nee Meyer) for 70 years, and proud father to Gwen Farley (Don), Mark Schnarr (Rita), Perry Schnarr (Lauren), Peggy Schnarr (deceased), Susie Schnarr (Deray), Gaye Hagen (Craig), Jane Stevens (Tom), and Jill Schnarr (Dave). He was loved and adored by his grandchildren Kailah (Kerry), Michael (Jen), Christine (Chris), Nicole (Dory), Jordan (Matt), Tami (Aaron), Jessica (Tom), Chelsea (Brandon), Spencer (Julianna), Andrew and Dylan, and great-grandchildren Alexis, Charlotte, Sophie and Danika.
Predeceased by his parents Anna Lobsinger and Herbert Schnarr; and his siblings Anthony, Cyril, Beatrice, Gerald and Reuben, Vern was born in St. Clements, Ontario, graduated from St. Jerome's College in Waterloo, played hockey for the Waterloo Hurricanes & Siskins, and worked for BF Goodrich and Epton Industries.
Vern and Yvonne lived in Waterloo, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Edmonton and Vancouver. Vern retired at age 65 as the VP of Sales, Industrial Products, and subsequently started his own business Vern Schnarr Agency specializing in distribution of Heavy Duty Conveyor Systems, retiring again at 83. He has since spent his time gardening, playing with grandchildren, and golfing trying to score his age.
Vern was a positive, supportive, and caring father and grandfather, and his children wish to honour his memory following his example of living life to the fullest and always putting his family first.
In keeping with Vern's wishes a church service will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church 3141 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam. The date and time of the Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
