January 2, 1958 - December 21, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Rudy on December 21, 2021. He died peacefully at home with his family by his side.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Marie, his son Tyler (Jen), and daughter Melissa (Jeremy). He is also survived by siblings Ruben (Ann), sister-in-law Nancy, Sarah (Adolf), Ike (Martha), Harry (Joan), sister-in-law Rae (Jake) and Lil (Terry). Sister-in-laws, Ryvvr (Lance), Janice (Bob) and brother-in-law Bob (Karen), many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Henry and Sara, brothers Ernie and Herman, and sister Hanna Koop.
At the age of 19, Rudy traversed the prairies, from his birthplace of Manitoba, to end up in BC and begin his life on the West coast. He quickly found work as a painter. The skills he mastered helped set the stage for his future and it wasn’t long before he started his own business as a self-employed painter. Although the scope of work changed over the years he continued to be self-employed throughout his career.
Rudy found solace in nature, one of the reasons he was drawn to BC and the west coast was being able to be outdoors year-round, enjoying nature and finding peace and comfort in creation. Besides his family, nature brought him great joy and peace until the end of his life. A week and a half before he passed, he was still strolling along by the river with Marie, taking in the sound of the rushing water, eagles soaring above, and feeling dwarfed by the trees surrounding him.
Rudy was all about loving his family, forgiveness, gratitude, counting his many blessings, and honouring God in all of this. He was such a real and genuine person without any pretense. We are inspired by how he was able to converse with people, making anyone feel comfortable. Throughout his illness, he used this skill as an opportunity to share his faith with others.
We are comforted and find peace knowing that he is free of pain and cancer and with the knowledge that we will see him again one day. Until then, using Rudy’s words, “There is Good in Today”.
We will dearly miss Rudy, but will keep him alive through stories and memories. Please feel free to share a story/memory with us.
Donations can be made to the BC Cancer Agency (Colorectal Research), or a charity of your choice.
