Steve was born on October 27th 1975 in Nelson, British Columbia and passed away in Burnaby on April 23rd 2016 at the age of 40. He was the first child born to Victor and Toni (ne Graham) Hodgins.
Steve’s family was everything to him. He was a devoted single father of two wonderful sons. He made time to be there on the sidelines cheering his boys. He could always be found in the center of all family gatherings. Naturally athletic Steve was involved in many sports over his life, but hockey and lacrosse were probably his favourite. Steve was a dedicated Canucks fan.
Steve took great pride in earning his Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. He worked in a variety of specialty areas as a nurse, but Steve’s true calling was in the field of palliative tertiary care. He spent the final years of his career working at Surrey Memorial hospital making a difference in the lives of his patients and their families. Steve’s own journey with cancer began in the fall of 2014. He focused on living not letting cancer take even one precious day from him.
Naturally friendly and always willing to give a hand Steve made friends in every community he called home: the Kootenays, the Island & the Lower Mainland. He will be missed by all who knew & loved him.
Predeceased by grandparents William & Florence Hodgins, grandfather Jack (John Robert) Graham, aunt Kathleen Hodgins, aunt and uncle Jacki & Julien Boogemans. He is survived by: his sons Keenan & Kael, parents Toni & Terry Hallam, Victor & Doralynne Hodgins , sister Jennifer (Terran) Booth, brothers: William Hodgins, Jesse Hallam & Richard Hodgins, nieces Drew & Ella, grandparents: Amy Graham, Angus & Heather Hallam and Margaret Law, numerous aunts, uncles & cousins who knew how special they were to Steve.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve's name to the BC Cancer Agency would be appreciated by the family.
