It is with the heaviest of hearts that I announce the passing of a beautiful soul, Erin Emily Burns on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Erin was born on November 6, 1972, to James E. Burns and Karen R. Stratton in Hartford Connecticut at Hartford Hospital. She attended Chenango Forks Central School District. She then went on to Broome Community College where she was an AS candidate in Chemistry.
Among her passions, she was born into a family that appreciated the natural elements of the world. Erin developed a love of geology, gardening, flowers, beaches, sunsets, and waterfalls. She also liked to carve stones and make mosaics. Erin enjoyed music of all kinds and loved her collection of vinyl records. Her notable favorites include The Greatful Dead, Janis Joplin, TTB, and Eminem. Erin also put a lot of passion into the work she did. She strived to make every detail perfect and worked hard to do so, the true definition of a handy-woman.
She gave her smile and her friendship to every person she met. Her kindness had no limits. She had a calming presence that was always inviting to anyone who needed a friend or a shoulder to cry on. Erin was an incredibly rare, genuine woman; she was a lover and a healer. She always had nice things to say about everyone she came across; her empathy allowed her to relate to any and everybody. Erin enjoyed spending time with her four children whom she adored more than anything. She took interest in all of her children’s passions and always encouraged them to follow their dreams. Erin’s love and compassion was truly limitless and her impact on the peoples lives she touched will live forever.
Erin was predeceased by her parents James E. Burns and Kaen R. Stratton, her brother William “Danny” Burns, and her daughter Melinda M. Burns-Sutton. She is survived by her husband Jonathan Suggs, her daughter Miranda Barrows, her sons Braden Burns & Zane Burns; her sister Sheryl Rutledge, her brothers Bryan Burns and Jason Burns; her nieces Mary-Jo Callaghan, Kori Dufford; her nephews Zachary Rutledge, Josh Burns, Dylan Burns and Toby Root; her grandchildren Oakley Burns, Aleyah Burns, Grayson Burns, Anakyn Burns, Milani Barrows and many many more family and friends.
May The Four Winds Blow You Safely Home.
The family had a private service per Erin’s wishes at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home. A Celebration of Erin’s Life will be held in her honor at a date to be determined later.
