

Evelyn R. McCarthy, 94 passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Cortland, NY to Michael and Mary Butler on February 3, 1918. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years Leonard J. (Mac) McCarthy; her parents; sisters, Anne Spacek and Josephine Zaharis; brother, Victor Butler; daughter, Jeanne McCarthy Kanick; granddaughter, Karin Malinovsky; great granddaughter, Morgan Brittany McCarthy. She is survived by her children, Michelle Malinovsky, Mark and Lauren McCarthy, and Joani McCarthy, all of Binghamton; grandchildren, Kristin Thoman; William John Malinovsky; Michael Malinovsky; Kelly and Jeremy Durham; Brian and Kris McCarthy; Danielle McCarthy; Heather and Craig Thomas; Jessica and John Norris; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Evie was the manager of Laurel Bowling Alley for 16 years. She was a coach for Jr. Bowlers and a member of the B-JC-E Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame. She was also an avid golfer especially at Ely Park and was the secretary of many bowling and golf leagues. Evie was instrumental in developing the Broome Co. Ladies Golf Association. She was an avid NY Yankee and NY Giants fan and a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. The family would like to thank the staff on Seton 2 East at Lourdes Hospital, especially Dr. Alexis Pappas for the exceptional care and compassion.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, December 29, at 2:00 PM in St. Thomas Aquinas Church with a Celebration of Life luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus at 126 Main Street, Johnson City, NY. Calling hours will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Saturday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are by the James V.
