

Binghamton: Most merciful Father, we commend our departed, John G. Skope, into your hands. John G. Skope, 97, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012, at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford. John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nellie, of 66 years; his parents, George and Anna Skope; beloved brothers, Joseph, Andrew and George; and beloved sisters, Marguerite, Rose, Katherine, Anna, Mary, and baby Skope. He is survived by his son, John; daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Arthur Deemie; precious grandchildren, Yvette, Danielle Lelik, and Robert Skope; also great-grandchildren, Benjamin Luke, Isabell, Andrew, Anthony, Madyson, and Adin Elizabeth; brother, Thomas Skope; and sister, Madeline Rombach; sister-in-law, Wanda Sandos; in-laws, Joe and Helen Gemborys; godchild, Marie Garner; and several nieces and nephews. John was born in W. Pawlet, VT and worked very hard on the family farm. He was an employee of Erie-Lackawanna RR for over 40 years. He served in the United States Marines during WWII and was a member of V.F.W. Post 478. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. John was an inspiration to all he met. He will be dearly missed. His love for family will always be affectionately remembered. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to all the staff at the NYS Vets Home, especially the "Apple" neighborhood. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 3, at 9:15 a.m. at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson and 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church where a funeral mass will be offered. Burial will follow in Slovak Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
