

Joseph A. Mickel of Binghamton, 94, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 2, 2013, at home. Joseph was born October 14, 1919 in Ashland, PA to the late William & Margaret Mickel. He is survived by a close and loving family: wife of 66 years, Edith (Turner) Mickel; a daughter, Mary & Steven Shenk of Binghamton; son, Joseph Mickel Jr. of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Tonia (Brian) Chilson, Rachel (Richard) Shipman, Christy Moreno, Stephanie Shenk, Steven Shenk Jr., all of Binghamton, Joseph Mickel III from Sarasota, FL; great-grandchildren, Petty Officer 2nd Class Brian Chilson Jr., stationed at Little Creek, VA, Cpl. Brett Chilson, stationed at Beaufort, SC, Leah Shipman, Ariana Shenk and Jaxon Moreno. Joseph was a US Army Veteran of WWII and had been a prisoner of war for 11 months, and a member of the American Legion. After returning from the war he started at Vail Ballou and served them for 35 years until his retirement. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, NY 13901, then a Committal Service with Military Honors will take place in the Spring Forest Cemetery. Friends are invited to the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. "If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever."
