Milo DeCastro, 99, peacefully passed away at home to be with our Lord and his wife, Nancy, on January 14, 2026. He was predeceased by Nancy; his parents, Peter and Mary DeCastro; his sister, Ida; two brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law and daughter-in-law. Milo is survived by his seven children: David; Michael (Lori); Cathy (Dan); Mimi (Brian); Sarah (Rick); Patricia; and Matthew (Kim). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, and many nieces and nephews. Milo was a graduate of Oswego State University where he earned his master’s degree in education. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Nancy, to whom he was married for 59 years. He spent his career at Chenango Valley School District, retiring as an administrator. He helped establish the district’s athletic program and was its first baseball coach, a role he held for more than 25 seasons. Under his leadership, the program flourished, earning widespread success and deep respect throughout the community. He was a mentor to generations of student-athletes and was regarded by many as the finest coach the district ever had. Over the years, he taught industrial arts, drafting, photography, and in the early days even drove a school bus during snowstorms, as he was the only one confident enough to navigate the buses in severe weather. He was an active member of the Hillcrest Kiwanis Club and devoted countless hours to community service. An avid and talented woodworker, Milo often helped friends with home and cottage projects, created handcrafted Christmas gifts for his family, and spent summers working alongside longtime friends building, painting, and repairing homes throughout the community. He frequently assisted with maintenance and repairs at St. Francis of Assisi Church. His creativity and craftsmanship were widely admired. Milo loved playing, coaching and watching baseball as well as spending summers at the cottage on Grippen Lake, fishing with friends, and building nearly anything imaginable in his workshop. Through his teaching, coaching, and community involvement, Milo touched countless lives. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to give freely of his time and talents. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Milo’s doctors, nurses, and caregivers for the extraordinary peace, comfort, care, and love they provided in his final years. Funeral services will be held on January 23rd, at St Francis of Assisi, 1049 Chenango St, Binghamton, NY 13901. Calling hours will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM with Mass immediately following at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Milo’s memory to the Broome County Food Bank, Catherine’s Cupboard, or Mom’s House.
