

Robert Frank Hand, 89, of Binghamton, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017 after a long battle with kidney cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank & Nettie Hand; wife, Gladys; son Philip. Robert is survived by his stepchildren, Betty (DeVaul) Williams and Victor DeVaul, who were blessed to have him as a father. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Linda Williams, Michelle & Brian Charlton, Robert & Anna DeVaul; two great-grandsons, Bryan P. Loeffler and Logan Charlton; niece, Agnes Smith; nephews, Steve & Kim, Bill & Angel, Roger & Dolly Smith. Bob grew up in the Town of Chenango, was a member of the underage Veteran Assoc., as he joined the Navy at the age of 16, doing his basic training in Sampson Naval base in NY. He served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was so proud of being an American. He spent many years placing the flags at Chenango Valley Cemetery for Memorial Day with his fellow comrades from Joseph P. Mangan American Legion in Hillcrest. He was a member of the HInman's Corner Fire Dept, now known as the Town of Chenango Volunteer Fire Dept. Bob retired from Links in Hillcrest after over 40 years of service. Bob's family wants to thank Dr. Frank Eder, Dr. John Miller and Bonnie Bieleck at the VA Clinic for the wonderful care given to him. Also with a grateful heart to the Hospice Nurses and Aides support group for the wonderful care given, 24 hours a day. A special thanks to his fellow Legion friend, Robert Bigot for being there every Sunday, so they could make their daily trip to the Legion. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, NY 13901. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am at the funeral home until the time of service. Burial will follow in the Glen Castle Cemetery.
