William, “Bill” Gavula, age 89, of Binghamton,NY went to be with our Lord on October 1st. He was greeted into the gates of heaven by his parents, William and Mary Gavula, his brother Andrew Gavula Sr, daughter Karen Antonello and great grandson Jordan Zawerton. The Rainbow Bridge is a much happier place today as Toma, Brandy, Shelby, Shawna, Maggie, Charlie and Joey greet their dear father with barks and kisses.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Donna, who on a sunny June day in 1977 said “I do” and made him the happiest man on earth.
Surviving are his children: Debbie, David (Suzie), Joan (Harry), Eileen Stone, Nicole Zawerton-Wood (Jim) and Todd DeLisle (Summer) and 18 grandchildren; Melissa, Michael, Keith, Jason, Brittany, Adrienne, Matthew, Danielle, Jeremy, Joel, Kristen, Chandler, Ash, Abbey, Taylor, Braden, Joelle and Logan; 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School in 1951. A few years later, while working and attending night school at Broome Tech he landed his dream job working in Purchasing at Singer Link. His career lasted 38 years until he retired in 1988. Bill had a wonderful retirement. He lived life at his own pace and could be seen doing handyman work for Office for the Aging, delivering Meals on Wheels, being of service at Community Baptist Church of Port Dickinson, playing the stock market, collecting coins and enjoying his growing family. Bill was an avid golfer and fisherman and enjoyed many years of golfing, on the links and beach of North Myrtle or with a pole in his hand in Canada or at Sandy Pond.
Donna and family will greet friends on Saturday October 8th from 9-11am at Community Baptist Church of Port Dick at 743 Chenango St., Binghamton, NY with a Funeral Service to follow. Please join us at the Union Hotel Event Center 246 Clinton St., Binghamton, NY to celebrate his life and share a story or two about him immediately following the service. A Private Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
Laughing through the tears and being thankful and blessed is our family’s way of honoring him and this day will be no different.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill can be made to his daughter Eileen’s non-profit organization, Love Always Equine Sanctuary, 2305 Carmen Road, Barker NY, 14012. His love and care for animals, and specifically horses, will live on in the barns and acres of this sanctuary for years to come.
