Rain was loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Married to Morty Mecklosky for 70 years. Children Carolyn Mecklosky, partner Kent Corduan of Vermont and Robert Mecklosky and wife Laura and grandchildren Jessica and Alex, and "adopted daughter" Rose Cottone.
Rain was first and foremost a sensitive person who always appreciated nature, her flower gardens. She had a keen eye and was a unusual artist.
Born November 6, 1933, she grew up in Brooklyn, New York, went to Lafayette High School and was on the girls basketball team. She was an assistant at the jazz magazine Metronome, and was offered an art position, yet she chose instead, to follow the traditional path for women at that time...marriage, wife and motherhood.
Eventually she went to college and earned a master's degree in Special Education...this was something that she was really proud of. She was a first generation college student in her family. She taught for 10 years at Ward Melville High School and earned best teacher of the year.
20 years ago she began what was to become an amazing artwork. She has collaged the kitchen walls.Floor to ceiling; images of politicians, friends, family, rockstars and writers are torn and reassembled and then glued to the wall. It's a profound piece of work.
She won a first place award from Stony Brook Carriage House for a large 3' X 6' collaged banner, celebrating Social Justice and Equality.
Rain is predeceased by loving husband Morty Mecklosky, sister Vivian Kaufman, and parents Sam and Regina Kaufman.
She had a strong close knit group of friends and extended family who loved and supported her throughout her life in Stony Brook.
She will be sorely missed. To celebrate her life take a walk at the beach, feed a stray cat, or enjoy the deep silence and beauty of a garden.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lorraine's name to WUSB Stony Brook at WUSB.FM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.obdavisportjefferson.com for the Mecklosky family.
