

Bennie Taylor Thormalen went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on February 10, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was 89 years old. Bennie was born on June 18, 1921 in Leander, Texas to Jim and Irene Simpson. She was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Irene Simpson, husband of 55 years, W.M. (Bill) Taylor, husband of 10 years, Alton (Bob) Thormalen, sister-in-law, Helen Simpson and nephew by marriage, Jim Poole. She is survived by her loving daughter, Pat Horne and son-in-law Doyle, of Spring, Texas, step-daughter, Vera Helms and husband Leon, brother, Woodrow Simpson, three granddaughters, two step-granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, two step-great-great grandchildren and one niece.
Visitation will be Sunday evening, February 13th at the Richardson-Colonial Funeral home in Port Lavaca, Texas from 6:30-8:30. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Alamo Heights Baptist Church on Trinity Shores Drive in Port Lavaca at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at the Port Lavaca Cemetery. Reverend Tim Smith and Reverend Casey DuBose officiating.
Pallbearers are Jeff Lambert, Whitey Lopez, Jack Buster, Jimmy Davenport, David Rhodes and Rudy Peralez.
Honorary Pallbearers are Billy Nichols, Bud Jackson, John Shaw, Paul Vermillion, Leon Helms, Woodrow Simpson Rob Lowry and Doyle Horne.
Bennie was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Caregivers that helped out while she was living with Pat and Doyle, and those at her personal care homes, Unlimited Care, in the Woodlands, Texas and Down Home Personal Care in Tomball, Texas were blessings to Bennie and her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the building fund at Alamo Heights Baptist Church.
