Jack was born in Hallettsville, Texas to Gustafson Lloyd and Carrie Skelton on September 10, 1932. He went to high school at Hallettsville graduating in 1950 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas in 1954. Jack worked as a high school teacher and coach in Ganado from 1954 to 1961. Most of his career was spent teaching and coaching in Calhoun County schools from 1961 through 1990. Jack was a devout UT fan, which made for fond memories of rivalries with a son who went to A&M. Jack never knew that when he was not around, his son would root for UT in his honor.
After Retirement, Jack spent LOTS of time on the golf course. His family cherishes the many hand crafted Christmas ornaments he made for them throughout the years.
Jack is survived by his daughter Rebecca Skelton (Dennis) of Port Lavaca, son Michael Scott Skelton (Jeannine) of Downingtown, PA, sister Patsy Jane Chapman, grandchildren Ryan Hargus, Keri Hargus, Jenny Hargus, Katelyn Skelton, Jack Bennett Skelton, Robert Abud and Christopher Abud along with numerous loving nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and other relatives. Jack was predeceased in death by his loving wife Betty Jean Hill, brothers Lloyd Skelton, Steve Bennett Skelton, Donald Skelton, Glenn Skelton, sisters Francis Kirkpatrick, Alma Lee Smith.
Pallbearers are Donald Skelton, Jim Bob Skelton, Dean Smith, Steve Chapman, Larry Daniel and Troy Wratislaw.
Honorary Pallbearers are Ryan Hargus, Calvin Anderle, James Maikoetter and his Grace Episcopal Church Family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bluebonnett Youth Ranch, bbyr.org. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Hospice of South Texas and all members of Calhoun Home Health, especially Helen and Destiny. Jack will remain in our hearts forever.
