Lorena Rae "Lorae" Martin, 99, of Port Lavaca, passed away on April 14, 2019. Lorae was born in Rockport to Eugene and Zoe Reader on March 1, 1920. She went to school in Kingsville and Refugio. She played in the band and was valedictorian of her high school. She married Howard Martin in 1940 in Refugio. She worked as an assistant store manager in Taylor and Waco, TX, until moving to Port Lavaca. She was also a seamstress. Lorae was involved in school and church activities with her family.
Lorae is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sons, Victor and Larry Martin; one granddaughter, Lory Martin; and brother, McVernon "Mack" Reader.
She is survived by her son, Chester (Shirley) Martin; daughters-in-law, Linda and Christy Martin. Lorae also leaves behind three granddaughters, one grandson, five great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
A memorial service will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Chuck Kimball officiating, in Port Lavaca followed by a graveside service at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery at 2PM.

The family of Lorae wishes to extend our sincere thanks to her neighbors, friends, and fellow church members who enabled her to continue living in her home on Chocolate Bay after the death of her husband.
