

Port Lavaca, Texas – On Sunday, February 12, 2012, Shizue Hasegawa McCulley, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away at her home in Port Lavaca. She was born on November 21, 1932 in Tokyo, Japan to the late Yasugiro and Haruo Uzawa Hasegawa.
58 years ago she met an American Soldier, Russell K McCulley, married, left her homeland of Japan and family and courageously traveled to a new country and became an American Citizen, raised a family and created a life. She was a member of the AFSA and past president and life time member of the women’s auxiliary in PA. She enjoyed fishing and hunting with her late husband; was an avid gardener, very creative and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her daughters, Sue Ann & Robert Velasquez of Port Lavaca, Nancy May & Eddie Moyer of Pottstown, PA, Patricia Kay & Michael Gammone of Stowe, PA, Michele Ann & Charles Ryberg of Phoenixville, PA; sisters, Mitsue Hasegawa Rego of Livingston, CA, Tsuyako Hasegawa Kimulo of Japan; brothers, Kazumi and Toshio Hasegawa of Japan; grandchildren, Kenneth Edward Witt, William Stephan Witt and Robert Daniel Velasquez all of Port Lavaca, Amy Lorien Hoffman of Stowe, PA, Joshua Edward Moyer of Pottstown, PA, Christopher Charles Ryberg and Cameron Lars Ryberg of Phoenixville, PA, Kimberly Ulmer of Modesto, CA and great-grandchildren, Colvin Ray Witt, Aliyah Jade Witt and Justin Ray Garcia all of Port Lavaca, Lucian A. Ely of Stowe, PA, Zachary Rego and Iann Ulmer of Modesto, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Russell Kenneth McCulley; parents; sister, Setsuko Hasegawa and brother, Kunio Hasegawa.
A Memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Port Lavaca Cemetery.
