Navy Commander, USN(ret) James H Pelphrey, 80 of Port Orange, was called home to our Heavenly Father on April 15, 2016. CDR Pelphrey honorably served in the Medical Service Corps for 40 years retiring in 1992. One of his favorite pastimes was reading, crossword puzzles, playing spider solitaire and flirting with the waitresses at his favorite Port Orange breakfast spot “Flap-Jacks”. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Alice Pelphrey; his daughters, Karen Turner (Dick); Cheryl Pelphrey-Weigand; Step-Children, Gary Malloy (Denise); Patty Lynn (Mike); Christina Bovier (Mark); 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Five sisters and many nieces and nephews also survive him. He was a long-time member of Port Orange Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3282. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 29, 2016 at 4pm at the Port Orange Presbyterian Church followed by a reception. Interment will be mid-summer at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in memory of CDR Pelphrey to the Port Orange Presbyterian Church, 4662 S. Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange, FL 32129
