Debbie and family have been on my mind alot this past year! I know today is going to be very hard and sad! You have so many great memories of David!  Hold them very tight today! Praying for strength for all of you!

I married David's sister Martha (Marti) in December 1981.
I had arrived in Daytona Beach in July 1981 to attend Embry-Riddle.  After Marti and I married we settled in Port Orange a few blocks from Terry Heflin and a few miles from David and Debbie. 

As busy as I was with college and learning to fly I fell into a fast and active friendship with David. Not long after I had bought a motorcycle David became enamored with motorcycles and bought a black Yamaha 650 as I remember it. David, Mike Caspro, and I would ride together especially enjoying the Ocala Forest. 

If David and I weren't spending the evenings fishing, we were playing racquetball.  Then there was golf!! I can't recall all the courses we played but, Spruce Creek, Pelican Bay, and Daytona Beach Club were at the top of the list.

David especially enjoyed flying over Volusia County and taking in the bird's eye view of the area he loved so much.

Not so long ago I was playing golf with some high school buddies in Maryland. We discussed the upcoming 50 year reunion and some of our friends who had passed recently. It is all too sad to move away from friends and loved ones and lose touch. Very sad indeed. 

Rest in peace Brother David. We will miss your wit and charm. Our prayers and love are with Debbie, Elizabeth, and Maggie at this difficult time.

We am so sorry for your loss.  David was loved by all and was a giver of himself as much as he was able to find time for.  He was in high demand and I had been trying to book him as our Santa for our pie event for a few years and we were finally blessed with his presence on November 23rd, 2019.  He was in full Santa character and gear at the Tomoka Brewing Company Ho Ho Hoing along.  We captured this picture of him alone but had many (young and old) who sat on Santa's lap that day.  David was definitely one of a kind with a humor that would make you laugh.  He will be sorely missed by all with fond memories of the times that he shared with us.

There is much to be appreciated as I reflect on David's life.  Most of all, he allowed Deb to travel with me when I was ill, as she became my driver, my helper, my scheduler, my shadow.  He never complained that she would need to stay late, be gone for days, or work extra hours at little notice.  His support of Deb supported me.  Now...let's not forget that he was also the star photographer for many Century Club events as well as Council of Achievement!

Deb - thank you for sharing so many wonderful photos of your journey with Dave.  The two of you complimented each other in so many ways, it warms the heart.  May the memories bring you comfort in times of sadness.  
  In addition to being classmates, I will hold fondly the memories of the dance studio days. Your girls gave the best hugs, while you and Dave would always  be lending a helping hand and bring smiles to the faces of those around you. 
  Doug and I hope your sadness is soon replaced with the abundance of happy times you shared.

Dear Deb, Liz & Maggie,  thank you for sharing the pictures.   What a journey of a family love story.  I must say Dave was rocking his wedding attire next to his beautiful bride! So many wonderful happy memories!  So grateful to serve a loving Savior with the McCall family.  So fun, happy and faithful.  It is comforting to know we will all be together in eternity.

Debbie, Sarah, Martha and Peggy- I was surprised and saddened to learn of David's passing. While our adult lives may have taken us our separate ways, my childhood memories of your family have never ventured very far away. Your written tribute to David is a testament to the adult man I knew as a younger boy and man. He will surely be missed.  You are in my heart and prayers. 

Debbie we are so sorry to hear about your loss! You and the family are in out thoughts and prayers! You  have many years of great memories to always cherish and hold on to! Great picture of him! We had some fun times all of us at Scottys! So sorry Debbie!

In 2016 Deb and Dave invited us to go on a British Isles cruise with them and we quickly signed up.  Overall we had an awesome time together.  During our travels Dave and I would kid around a lot which eventually resulted in giving ourselves the nicknames of Burt and Barley.  Without getting into the particulars of how our new nicknames came about we used them with much fun during the rest of the trip and used them when we addressed each other ever since.  Dave had a gleam in his eyes every moment of the trip and I was struck by his purchase of the photos that the ship offered.  I mean all the photos that he could get his hands on.  As well as all the photos he took himself.  He told me he wanted to be sure to capture every moment as he didn’t ever want to forget any of it.  This is a memory that we will never forget.  Thank You Dave and Deb for those special moments and making it a Fabulous trip.  We miss you Barley!

I am sad and shocked of the news of my brother's passing.    We had many great times growing up in Daytona--fishing on the bridge; sailing on the Halifax in little prams; riding our bikes to Lenox ES and everywhere; and weekend visits to our grandparents (a favorite because we could go get a bag of candy at Tootons for 10 cents),  We had so much fun as kids!  After I got married, I returned to Daytona with my husband, Gary--and David and Deb were very welcoming.  We shared many dinners and fun times together.  Our daughter was born at Halifax and David was there to capture her first pictures!  He truly was a loving big brother and will be greatly missed!  David and Deb were great partners and shared a very special love!  My prayers and hugs to Deb, Elizabeth, and Maggie.

Very sorry for the loss of a great and wonderful person. Lots of good laughs together and in our trainings. Such a dear and true heart for helping others. Dave will be missed. May God give peace and comfort  to you and friends at this difficult time. 

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.  I will never forget Your visit to Carolina and I had just gotten the boat fixed and asked David to please back the trailer into the water so I could see how it was going to run.  No problem he said!  We got out into the ICW and David said,  hold on to your hat!  Which promptly left my head and so did his never to be seen again!  He had it wide open.  Nice little cruise.  Like Sarah said, “he would probably have the red pen on my grammar as well.  Gods speed to another adventure David! God bless you all.

So glad you committed your selves to each other. We would always attempt to meet up with you all whenever we would be in town before we retired back to Daytona Beach. I am at a lost for words and can not believe you are gone. I have fond memories of our childhood, visits with Dad at the river house and fishing off the dock; weekends visiting our grandparent in Jennings, oh those quail coupes, running through the fields, going to the local general store with our 25 cents and getting a bag of candy for the weekend, putting pennies on the tracks and waiting for a train to go by and flatten them. The Summer Mom drove us to Oregon to visit our other grandparents, oh that was quite the adventure; and telling ghost stories in the basement and too scared to reach the string in the middle of the room to turn on the light. Our walks coming home from church and stopping at Angel and Phelps for red liquorish and white chocolate, and walking to the beach and being gone all day. We had a great childhood. All these memories I will cherish forever! I guess I did have a lot to say! This is one time I wish you could pick up your red pen to correct my grammar. I am so very sorry for your loss.  Dave was such a great man to our community and I loved seeing the true love and friendship that the two of you shared.  Your faith will carry you through this, as it has taken him to heaven.  Praying and sending you and your family much love.

So sad to hear about David. We shared some good times as fellow Deacons at South Daytona Baptist Church. My thoughts and prayers are with Debbie and the children during this time of loss and celebration of knowing he is present with the Lord.

David was always someone you could count on. I remember when I broke my hand, and I couldn't drive my stick shift back to Daytona Beach to go to my orthopedist (Dr. Gilbert Martin). David offered to drive to Gainesville, pick me up at the university, drive me back to Daytona Beach that same night so I could make my emergency appointment the next morning, and then he drove me back the following day so that I would not miss too many of my classes. It was a whirlwind ride!  No matter what, he always had a smile on his face, and he tackled everything with humor and good will. 
I may have moved away from Daytona Beach, but David will always remain close to my heart.


I greatly enjoyed time spent with Dave! I had the opportunity to golf with him not too long ago in the Chamber league. He just enjoyed being outdoors on the course, like me. Neither of us cared about our score, just enjoying each other’s company. Those jokes though!!! I know Dave is bending the ear of St. Peter with some “Dad jokes” that are hilarious!
I will miss that smile and laugh! Praying for Deb and the girls during this time. Thank you for sharing Dave with all of us in the Golf League!
