Long time Daytona Beach Shores resident and Florida native, Julia Parrish Reid, passed away March 13, 2021 at Halifax Hospital. Born Julia Florence Parrish, Julia graduated from Deland High School in 1968, and later received degrees from Goddard College and UCF. Julia would go on to hold many jobs, including that of counselor and social worker for troubled youth, but the job she was best at, and the one she took the most pride in, was being a mother and grandmother. She loved, nurtured, and supported her sons and grandson unconditionally and took delight in all their accomplishments.
Julia was remarkable for her perseverance. Even when she was in pain or a bad situation, she could uplift others with her sense of humor and her loving spirit. She gave selflessly and cared for others without complaint.
Julia was a dog lover and would take in strays or rescues whenever she could. An avid gardener, she achieved Master Gardener status and would spend hours planning and planting her garden so it could benefit as many living creatures as possible. She was extremely intelligent and well-read. Julia was a gifted artist and a truly great person to have a conversation with. She supported numerous charities for children and animals. Never seeking recognition for her good deeds, she did these things because she was a genuinely kind and good person with a heart filled with love. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Julia is survived by her sister, Sara Reed; brother Raymond Parrish Jr. and family; son John Reid and wife Barbara; son Matthew Reid; and her beloved grandson, Jackson.
