Mildred B. Flassig, “Millie”, went to be with God in Heaven on June 11, 2018. Born April 21, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Otto and Iva Fromm, she married Earl E. Flassig, and together they had seven children. Millie was preceded in death by her husband Earl, and two sons: James and William Flassig. She is survived by her children, Jerry (Georgia) Flassig, Jack (Lynda) Flassig, Kathleen (Paul) Ritchey, Peggy (Charles) Collins, Sharon (Tom) Coburn; beloved family member, Bonnie Flassig; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild whom Millie was able to meet before she passed.
Millie and her family moved to Florida in 1959, where she worked for Holiday Inn as an innkeeper for many years. She then became the executive director of the district American Cancer Society, which included offices throughout Volusia County.
Millie loved family and spent many happy days enjoying get-togethers and vacations to the mountains of North Carolina, as well as to the Florida Keys. She loved to travel with her beloved companion, Bill Callanan, who became an integral part of the family. Enjoying life, church, playing the piano, dancing, boating, but most of all – family, Millie touched the lives of so many people. Her wisdom, common sense, and knowledge guided her family through many hard times. She was the rock of the family, the one we could go to wisdom, and most of all, she believed in the goodness of each individual family member. Millie was strong – both physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She loved and was loved back, and will be sorely missed.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am Wednesday, June 13th at Calvary NSB, 794 Old Mission Road, New Smyrna Beach. A Graveside Service will begin at 1pm at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater, with a reception to follow at the family home.
