Peggy Starnes Armstrong, 87, was preceded in death by her husband, Neil A. Armstrong, of 44 years. She is survived by her sons, Steven S. Blair, Ormond Beach, FL.; Michael E. Blair, Orange City, FL.; Steven E. Armstrong, Leland, NC.; Douglas S. Armstrong, Ormond Beach, FL.; Michael P. Armstrong, Hendersonville, NC.; daughters, Susan R. Campbell, Ruston, LA.; and Holly A. West of Ormond Beach, FL. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Kalyn and Connor Blair, Ormond Beach, FL.; Sarah and David Blair, Orange City, FL.; Sarah Armstrong-Brown, Woodbridge NJ.; Matthew Armstrong, Portland OR., Megan Young, Mosely VA.; Andrew Armstrong, Hendersonville NC.; Barrett and Collin Armstrong, Greenville S.C.; Kevin Campbell Alachua Fl., Mark Campbell Nashville, TN.; Tyler West, Ormond Beach, Fl.; Troy West, Midway KY.; brother, Charles Bishop, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Armstrong was born in Scott County, VA, on Starnes Bluff land that has been in her family since the French and Indian Wars. She was raised in Kingsport, TN, and attended local schools there, graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1952 and working at the Mead Corporation as a personnel secretary for three years.
After moving to Daytona Beach in 1955, she worked at the Mary Karl School, later DBCC. Joining General Electric in 1965, Mrs. Armstrong served in various secretarial positions in Engineering, Program Management and Marketing during the Apollo Lunar Program and subsequent follow-on programs.
She was a marvelous Southern cook and her grandchildren were a special joy to her.
