April 17, 1959 – October 28, 2025
Thomas Andrew Panoff, age 66, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, after a long and courageous fight with cancer. Born in Washington, D.C., on April 17, 1959, Tom lived a life marked by quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a deep commitment to those he loved.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Tom served as an Avionics Armament Specialist from 1979 to 1983, laying the foundation for a lifelong career in defense and technical services. His professional journey spanned more than four decades, with leadership roles at E-Systems (later acquired by Raytheon), DAQ Electronics, Firelake Security, and other firms. He was instrumental in transitioning U.S. Department of Defense systems from legacy platforms to modern security technologies, training hundreds of professionals along the way.
Tom’s impressive career was a blueprint for innovation: project manager for NASA’s Galileo and Magellan space probes, developer of Kevlar components for the LANTIRN program, and architect of integrated security systems for the Air Force, DOE, and commercial nuclear facilities. He held titles ranging from VP of Technical Services to Director of Engineering, and was known for his hands-on leadership, deep technical insight, and unwavering commitment to quality.
Even after beginning cancer treatment in 2018, Tom continued to lead with resolve and clarity, finishing his career in June 2024 at Firelake Security alongside longtime colleagues and friends. His strength and endurance inspired everyone around him—he truly led “The Good Fight.”
Outside of work, Tom was an avid cook and devoted gardener. He didn’t just prepare meals—he shared them. Whether it was a simple supper or a celebratory feast, Tom found joy in gathering people around the table. His cooking was an extension of his care: thoughtful, nourishing, and always offered with warmth. He cultivated gardens with the same spirit—growing beauty and sustenance for others to enjoy.
Tom enjoyed coaching youth sports, carpentry, camping, fishing, and recreational softball and racquetball. He was also a great golfer, known for his smooth swing and love of the game. Whether on the course with friends or practicing alone, golf was one of his true joys—a blend of focus, finesse, and fun that reflected his character.
His Irish spirit, quick wit, and fierce loyalty made him unforgettable. He was a mentor, a leader, a craftsman, and a friend.
Tom’s fight, spirit, and determination to be productive and love with optimism carried him right to the end. His legacy is one of fight, determination, optimism—and no quit.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
