

Barbara K. Huston, 91, formerly of Portland, Maine, died on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Freeport. She was born in Portland, Maine on December 30, 1925, the daughter of Lester W. and Vivian K. (Porter) Watson. She was a graduate of Deering High School (class of 1945) and the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. Prior to her marriage, Barbara was employed as a children’s art instructor and at Casco Bank and Trust Company. On June 24, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Waldon F. Huston. They moved to Connecticut for his employment and raised their family in Kensington, where they lived for 30 years. During this time, she was an active member of the Berlin Congregational Church, serving on the Ways & Means Committee, leader of a youth group, and as a Deaconess. In retirement, they moved back to Barbara’s family home in Freeport, Maine, living there for many years before moving to Portland. Known as “Bobbie” to friends and family, she enjoyed camping, the outdoors, flower gardening and birdwatching.
Barbara is survived by her son, Kendall Huston and his wife Pat of Bristol, Conn.; two daughters, Linda Wolfe and her wife Sarah Dowling of Freeport, and Sara Huston and her husband Gary Shaffer of Topsham; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years; an infant daughter, Susan; her parents; and her brothers, Lester and Richard Watson.
A graveside service for Barbara will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Ave. Portland. .
